Technology - July 12 2006ASUS PG1191 Multitasking Monitor1
Figuring out that it’s way too hard to beat competitors on a technological level, companies are simply adding additional features to products to edge out the competition. But that’s all right, because, like Alton Brown, I tend not to like unitaskers around my workspace. I’m more inclined toward something like this ASUS PG1191, which was just announced today: a 19" LCD with your standard 1280x1024 via a DVI connection—but that's where the standard features end. It also has a built-in USB 2.0 hub, 1.3MP webcam, ports for your microphone and headphones, and a true 2.1 integrated speaker system with a sizable tube mounted on the back of the stand. Though bass notes are not directional, we are not sure how effected they would be suspended in the air, rather than on the floor, in a corner. Regardless of design decisions, the 19" flatscreen LCD is packed full of features and is aesthetically very pleasing, invoking a refined industrial feeling.
