Two Pennies a Mile?

5

The last time anyone could move at two pennies a mile, you had to feed your horse a bag of grain. Oil prices have skyrocketed in the last five years and that, along with increasing consumption from industrializing countries, suggests it will be a long time before the price of gas will level off (if ever). While people can complain about regulating gas prices or developing new ways to drill for oil, those like me will probably want to take a direct action. Here's a practical and fashionable option: the Scoot concept. Although it only features a top speed of 30km/hr, it has a range of 50km, recharges in 6 hours, and could potentially only cost two cents per mile. The Scoot was designed by the people at the GRO design firm and, although it looks like a scooter, it is classified as a bike--which actually might be better, as you won’t need to pay for registration or insurance. It’s not in production, but with increasing gas prices and the real concerns about global warming, I wouldn’t be surprised if some company decided to manufacture it.
