Substance - September 07 2006Concepts [Contemporary Artists] Want Made: Taste DJ4
There's this guy named Rirkrit Tiravanija who made a name for himself in the '90s art world by--among other social performances--cooking for and playing music with viewers-of/participants-in his installations. He's the first person I thought of when I came across this Taste DJ concept, conceived by Fei Zhu for DesignBoom's Your Way to Coway competition earlier this year. The association is useful, because this concept seems a bit closer to art than to functional cooking, essentially considering the idea of a cooking range that can be controlled like a DJ might control a set of turntables and a mixer. The setup is also equipped for a variety of multimedia, allowing the chef to listen to music, surf the net, or talk on the telephone while cooking. | Sci Fi Blog via Yanko Design | By: cory o'malley |
