I like this Steckling outdoor planter as a small container gardening option for space-starved urbanites. The planter fits like a clamp on the railing of a balcony, with two soil reservoirs that offer ample space for root growth, as well as drainage holes at the bottom. It looks like it also might work in a window without a screen, although you'd have to deal with water draining indoors.
