productdose Wiki Contest

6

wiki contest

We've thoroughly enjoyed watching readers get involved in our new wiki functionality, editing previously-created pages and adding new content that benefits the whole productdose community. It's apparent that readers haven't quite gotten the hang of creating new wiki pages, though. So, we're raising the stakes and introducing the latest productdose contest, in which we will award prizes for the best wiki page produced over the course of a month. This includes brand wikis, how-to wikis, and wiki buying guides.

All new wikis posted to productdose will be judged by a six-person panel of productdose colleagues, including representatives from brands and merchants we love. We're currently making final decisions on who will be in the panel, so we can't say who will be involved or what the prizes will be just yet. What we can tell you is that On The Fly is giving away the first prize, which will be a two-night stay in San Francisco, including airfare for two and entrance to The World Is Just Enough, a 20,000 sq. ft. showcase of audio/theater equipment, upscale menswear, accessories, and automobiles.

Sponsored by On the Fly, Club Sportiva, and Mitra, The World is Just Enough is a benefit for City of Dreams, a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization dedicated to mentoring at-risk youth. Limited to 400 guests, the party will be an intimate opportunity to check out a lot of amazing apparel, electronics, and automobiles aimed at just the type of guy who reads productdose. Participating vendors include Mulholland Brothers, Michael Toschi, Fairway & Greene, and nearly 20 others, and complimentary wine and appetizers, including a Martini and Manhattan bar, will keep you refreshed.

On The Fly will be sending one lucky productdose wiki writer, plus one guest, to the party, which will take place in San Francisco on November 17. Plus, you will be put up in a hotel for two nights. All you have to do is write and post a great wiki on the site. Entries will be accepted through the end of October, at which point we will announce the judges, and then the winner. Because this first prize is so remarkable, we've narrowed the entry period; make sure you create and submit your wiki before November 1st, or your wiki will be entered into the contest for next month's prize. If you want to give yourself better odds, feel free to enter as many times as you like. Good luck!

Topic: why no wikis? one possible reason...

I am a brand new user to this site, and this wiki contest is the latest post. one thought of why readers "haven't gotten the hang of creating new wiki pages" may be partially related to the usability of this site. as a new user, i still can't figure out how to use this site in general, though it seems like a great site. it took a while to find the "about" link (moving to the top of the page would capture more registrants). then after registering, i don't know what the blue pill icon means (i assume it means placing a product in my personal dose). this seems like a brilliant idea for a site. please consider a usability re-evaluation so it is easier to learn how to best use the site. thanks much.

I agree with sparkbugg...I haven't been involved because I don't understand the user functionality.

We've had a few non-US residents ask us if they are eligible for the contest. Sorry. The cost of flying you from, say, Japan, is a bit too much for us to bear. The contest is open to US residents only. You must be 18 to be eligible for the contest. We won't knock you on your grammar; we're looking for good info.

What about Canadian residents, it can't be too much more for flights from Canada as it is for USA flights. Thanks.

Sorry Tom Australians aren't eligible, ever since the Australian-American War Australians have not been able to submit to productdose contests.

I don't want to play favorites while the contest is still on, but: totally awesome. I think the bar has been set just a little higher. "Wiki" in pumpkin seeds? Clever and timely.

How do I get Quotes and Apostrophes to display properly in my wiki? I looked through the documentation, and I can't seem to figure it out.

I think it's a formatting issue. I'm assuming you wrote this in word and pasted it over. The wiki can't read the formatted text, but you can manually change the apostrophes by simply deleting them and rewriting within the wiki.

Actually, I wrote in notepad and then used the wiki style marks in my notepad and then copied it over. But I will try your theory. Its weird, when im editing the wiki the ' and " look fine, and then when I view the wiki through the site they all turn into ?'s.

A $5,000 Diamond from angara.com has just been added to the Raffle for the World is Just Enough Party for any last minute wiki entries or anyone living in San Francisco that plans on attending the party.
