Technology - January 04 2007FujiFilm FinePix F40fd w/ Face Detection1
Just in time for CES next week, FujiFilm has announced three new point-and-shoot cameras. The FinePix F40fd [product page] pictured to the right will be fielding the most attention for its affordability, ease of use, and impressive feature set for an entry level camera. The F40fd incorporates FujiFilm's proprietary Face Detection Technology, which will find up to 10 human faces in a frame in as little as 5/100's of a second and respond by setting the correct focus and exposure automatically. The 8 megapixel camera features a dual shot mode (giving you your pick of pic's), picture stabilization, ISO to 2000, and FujiFilm's i-Flash intelligent flash system. Look for the camera to ship in March, or see it as CES. (FujiFilm press release) By: cory o'malley |

Am I the only person who doesn't see face detection as that huge of a deal? Nikon's been using it for a while now, and while it seems to amaze my customers (I sell cameras), I think 90% of the time the camera's regular autofocus probably does the job of knowing where to focus. |
