Technology - July 26 2007Save yourself4 Even though there are tons of communications devices that boast the ability to keep you in contact no matter where you are in the world, I'm always a bit skeptical. Are these batteries really waterproof? Will this walkie-talkie really broadcast above the treetop canopy? Eton FR300 Self-Powered Crank Radio makes me feel a little safer, if only because it requires a bit of old-fashioned man-power. At least I know that I'll have a hand in saving my own skin if the rechargable battery inside decides to die. With a built-in cell phone charger access to NOAA weather and TV-VHF channels, you can bet that someone will hear your calls for help. By: sean hall
