Although we are uncertain about its claims to being first to market, the Aiwa UZ-PS128 Recordable mp3 Headphone does represent a commercially engineered solution for combining an mp3 player with headphones. In this case, Aiwa chose a street-style pair of cans and embedded a 128MB flash mp3 player inside. It has an added feature of recording from any source you are listening to and storing it in MP3 format. So, for example, you can rip your CDs, unplug, and go for jog and bring the music with you. The unit weighs 100 grams which is certainly manageable. That portability combined with 10 hours of playback time means this would be an ideal candidate for someone with an active lifestyle and wanting minimal baggage.
