Substance - January 25 2008Solar Still3
If any of you have seen Kevin Costner's cinematic disaster, Waterworld, you'll certainly remember the opening scene when he conserves water by taking nature's call into a still that turns his urine into liquid gold - potable water. I never ever want to be in a world without land and I never ever want to have to drink my own piss. These solar stills utilize the sun's rays to distill and collect drinking water from the sea (or impure water but we've already covered that). The stills produce 1 to 4 pints of water per day. And it floats. In case you do have to resort to drastic measures and want the scene of your crime to be as far away from you as possible - also a fitting demise for your DVD copy of the movie.
