Brand History
David Yurman began sculpting in high school in Great Neck, in Long Island, NY, in the late 1950s. Soon after graduating high school, he moved to Big Sur, CA, where he met his future wife Sybil while apprenticing with the sculptor Hans Van de BovenKamp?. A year later, Yurman and Sybil would launch Putnam Art Works, and the two would be married in 1979.
David Yurman, the company, was created by the pair in 1980, with a stated goal was to combine art, fashion and jewelry. A string of awards for David Yurman designs would follow, including Designer of the Year (Cultured Pearl Associations of America and Japan, 1980) and The Intergold Award (1983). During this period, Yurman's signature cable design was also created in 1982.
The David Yurman men's collection was launched in 1994. The collection included writswear, both jewelry and watches.
The first Yurman branded store opened on Madison Avenue in New York City in 1999.
