Brand Overview
The name Earnest Sewn is meant to evoke the concept of "products sewn in earnest," a suggested indication of the brand's interest in quality denim manufacturing.
Brand History
Founded by Scott Morrison, former co-founder and designer of Paper Denim & Cloth?, Earnest Sewn was one of the first American denim brands to show a significant interest in Japanese denim tradition. In particular, the traditional Japanese style aesthetic WabiSabi plays heavily in the brand's design philosophy. Earnest Sewn translates the concept as "the beauty in all things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete."
In terms of denim design, the integration of the imperfect is meant to refer to the hand processing and refinishing that goes into the creation of an Earnest Sewn jean. Elements like stitch detailing, needlework, and thread variation are also key elements to the brand's design, creating a set of irregular and imperfect elements that are meant to come together to form beauty in the final product.
