Fossil is an American fashion accessories brand focuses on incorporating a 1950s Americana design sensibility into brand image focused on classic American themes.
Brand History
Founded in 1984, the company emerged in the '90s as a leader in the men's and women's fashion accessory market, catering to value-driven customers who appreciate lower price points. The Fossil brand now offers an extensive line of watches under its proprietary Fossil, Relic, MW, MW MIchele, Wrist Net, Wrist PDA, and Zodiac brands. Fossil has also negotiated licensing agreements in the past with Burberry, Diesel, DKNY, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs, and Emporio Armani.
In the early 1990's, Fossil expanded its core business, launching a line of accessory products including handbags, belts, small leather goods and sunglasses under the Fossil and Relic brands.
The Company began opening a group of outlet stores nationwide in 1996 creating its own discontinued distribution channel. Fossil became one of the first on-line retailers launching fossil.com in 1996 and began to open several Company-owned accessory stores. In 2000 FOSSIL Jeans wear, a casual, hip jean line for men and women, was introduced on fossil.com and in company-owned stores. In 2002 Fossil created a proprietary technology brand Abacus, targeted for distribution in the electronics channel.
