Brand Overview
Molton Brown is a luxury cosmetics brand, headquartered in London, that is marked by a dedication to using natural products. Molton Brown offers a full line of men's, women's, and unisex bath and hair products, as well as candles, room sprays, and a small amount of beautiful leather travel products. The products are found in spas, high-end department stores, luxury hotels, and retail shops.
Brand History
The Koniak family opened their salon in downtown London in 1973 on South Molton Street. The salon was renowned for its use of natural products, most of which were hand-made at the Molton St. location. (Today at Molton Brown, an in-house team of natural scientists create formulas from a blend of elemental plant-based extracts collected from around the globe.)
The company's dedication to therapeutic combinations of natural ingredients was formed during the synthetic 70s and began the legacy of creating products that are mild and understated, a legacy which has served them so well in the ever-changing atmosphere of cosmetics.
In the late 1970s, Dale Bowers joined the MB team, bringing with her many years of beauty product chemistry experience, and MB began expanding into creating beauty products for consumers outside of Molton St.
The focus was on using natural products that were therapeutic in nature, rather than on using synthetics to lower the cost of production (and the quality of the product), and it has remained so until the present day.
In the late 1980s, Molton Brown began moving away from the hairdressing business that had launched the beauty line, focusing instead on the effort to create great products using natural ingredients that customers were demanding in ever-growing numbers.
Experiencing a boom in the late '90s and early this century due to continually increasing demand for their products, MB began offering their products online, and is now opening Retail storefronts in the US, with an eye on expanding to Japan, Germany, Singapore, France, and Australia.
Molton Brown currently has US retail storefronts in Soho, King of Prussia, and Short Hills.
Corporate Culture
The company's culture is all about excellence and integrity - an integrity revolution in beauty and body care. Molton Brown wants to provide consumers with an honest alternative to pseudo-science, bogus philosophy, superficiality and over claim. The old paradigm of beauty products (lower costs by cheapening the production process and using inferior ingredients and boost sales by advertising heavily) has been successfully challenged by Molton Brown, as well as other natural beauty product lines such as Aveda?.
