Muji is a housewares, accessories, stationary, and gadgets design and retail company based in Japan. The company's name translates as "No Brand Quality Goods".
Brand History
Muji was formed in Japan in 1980, and is based in the design goals of creating simple products for the home at reasonable price points. Efficient production andenvironmental sensitivity were are also central to the brand's design philosophy. Muji sustained minimalism speaks to not only an aesthetic agenda, but also to the issue of using only what it necessary for a given product.
In 1990, Muji opened it's first store in London. Since then, the company has continued to opens stores throughout the UK and western Europe.
In March of 2005, Muji was awarded nine International Forum (iF) product design awards for 13 products submitted. Of the awards, five were gold awards, the iF’s highest accolade and 10% of the total number of 50 Gold awards issued at the 2005 iF Product Design Awards.
Muji has currently launched nearly 300 stores in Japan, with nearly 3400 employees.
