Offi is a furniture design company that is focused on creating simple, beautiful and practical furnishings that address the modern urban lifestyle. Offi products are created to be multifunctional, comfortable, and at home in any modern home in the world. Offo's recent purchase of Pure Design adds several categories and numerous items that follow the same ideals. The company is based in Tiburon, CA (Bay Area).
Brand History
Offi & Company was founded in 1997 in Berkeley, CA, by Philip Kirk Hobbs, a former attorney and commercial furniture engineer. The original goals of the company involved a mixture of the functionality of office furniture and the needs of aesthetic appeal in the home. Offi's initial offering was called the Cerise Collection.
By 2002, the company was producing 10 new pieces per year and regularly worked with designers such as Brian Kane, David Simon, Shuichiro Koizumi,TRUCK Product Architecture, and Roberto Gil, all led by renowned industrial designer Eric Pfeiffer, who was Offi's VP of Design between 2000 and 2004. Throughout the decade, the company would evolve from home and office furnishings, such as chairs, tables, and desks, into storage solutions, bedroom furniture and pillows, lighting, and furniture and accessories for children.
Offi has won a variety of awards for individual furniture designs, and the company was awarded an ID Magazine design award in 2003 for the Perch Lounge (pictured top left below). That same year, "Bent Ply: the Art of Plywood Furniture," a book co-authored by Eric Pfeiffer, was published; the book featured the step-by-step making of the Offi Wave Desk.
In March of 2004, OFFI & Company acquired Pure Design, LTD. Pure design Studio has worked with a variety of independent designers, including Karim Rashid, Richard Hutten, Paul Baber, Johnny Lim, Terence Cooke, Kirsten White, Inoda-Sveje Design, 3rd Uncle, Peter Stathis, Patty Johnson, Douglas Coupland, Scot Laughton, Procter:Rihl, Butter, Masahiro Minami, Mark Naden, and the Creativeblock design team.
